I’ve been thinking about the unique U.S. election process this week. Is it all that much to want to have confidence that every single one of us had our ‘say’ this coming Tuesday? Resisting a genetic impulse to launch into a convincing plea to encourage you to participate in this year’s presidential election on behalf of your candidate, I’m departing from the essay to instead, rely on just one word:

Lifting up those who survived the People

who died in Sandy. We are not the same without them.

We are better,

for having known them.

About dan4kent

Born and raised in the Midwest, Dan lives in the Chicagoland area. With a grown son from a previous marriage, he has since built a committed relationship of 33 years with his partner Rick, the Love of his Life. Having written his whole life, he blogged for years because he has to write…he can’t help it. Know the feeling? There’s ‘good‘ to be found in all of it. “If all I do is leave someone (or something) better than I found them, then I’ve done my part. Thanks for letting me grace your screen, if only for a little while.”

  3. Dan,
I did it. I have my doubts that my ballot makes a difference one way or another, but I did do it. There were several “reminder” calls from volunteers at a local organization who wanted to know if I had received my ballot and if I had voted yet. There was also an elder, bird-like lady in the church who stood and admonished the congregation to vote. Otherwise, I might have allowed listlessness, apathy, and futility to win.

    I got my vote out.

Is it weird we don’t have voting booths here anymore and it’s all vote by mail?

    Be well,

Kina!!!! So glad to hear you found a way to get in your vote. And I think it does matter…not because your vote went into one big bucket tally or anothers, but because your vote was spent the way you wanted it to be. Just like mine will be in the morning. Enough of us do that and all of us can be assured that each of us had our ‘say’. Advertising can be bought, votes must never be. Yours wasn’t purchased and neither was mine.
If that happens over and over, we suddenly have something beautiful to behold…messy, noisy “We the People” democracy. Well done. Dan

If you don’t vote, you lose the right to complain. I like complaining.

LOL!!!! Me too. My vote tomorrow will give me a ticket you can’t get after tomorrow. I’m ‘in’. This horrifically (sp?) long campaign season is almost over…here we go! Dan

  5. A very good word. Vote USA. There are people all over the world dying for the right to vote.

  6. Kinda sad to not have more to read today. But I would actually expect nothing less from you. I did my duty yesterday….waited in line 42 minutes in 41 degree weather and got my sticker…. “I ❤ Voting" Read ya next week!!

    • dan4kent says:

Very kind of you to say so. This week’s version of the crafting necessary to form the letters together was good therapy…different, but it must have beem what I needed. And you waiting in-line in 41-degrees to get what you wanted? I expected nothing less. See ya back. Dan

      • I did love those letters! How did you do that?!

      • dan4kent says:

Glad you liked my crafting…The process? Gathering lots of pics; grouping the purpose each letter served, then loosely laying them out in the general shape of each letter. Then erasing the ‘extra and then using my geometric tool to lay in edging to clean up the little bits of raggedness left over from the cropping/erasing process. The task (as a whole word) was such that I broke it down into doing each individual letter as its own stand-alone graphic and then laying them into the post…one on top of the other. Hadn’t really played with this approach before, but it was fun and a different kind of Creative than I typically follow. Can you tell I had fun? Trust this helps give you some new ways of thinking about some pretty basic techniques. It’s all about adding bits to your tool box. Be joyful. Dan

      • I totally see this coming in useful in my personal life. Thinking Christmas and birthdays!! Thanks for the directions!

      • dan4kent says:

Such as I have…it’s yours. Play with it and you’ll be fine. Glad I taught YOU something (ha!). Dan

What do you think? Let me know.
